The victim is asked to run a fix

Microsoft described increased ACR Stealer activity in customer environments between late April and mid-June. Its 16 July report examines two campaigns that began with ClickFix lures, persuading targets to run commands presented as a solution to a problem.

The later paths diverged

The investigated chains used different delivery and execution methods but sought access to browser credentials, session tokens and other sensitive information. That common objective links a consumer-looking browser interaction with possible access to company resources. Microsoft’s report identifies observed patterns rather than every campaign using the malware family. The point at which a webpage asks someone to run a local command deserves scrutiny before the recipient tries to judge the hidden payload.
