The announcement
AMI Labs announced a $1.03 billion seed financing on 10 March, according to co-lead investor Cathay Innovation. Cathay put the raise at €890 million and the pre-money valuation around €3 billion. Other co-leads include Greycroft, Hiro Capital, HV Capital and Bezos Expeditions.
The lab, chaired by Yann LeCun and led by Alexandre LeBrun, plans research on models that learn representations of the world and support memory, reasoning and planning. It begins with operations in Paris, New York, Montréal and Singapore. The financing funds research, recruitment and development; it is not evidence that a general-purpose system with those capabilities has already shipped. The investor statement gives the programme’s ambition and initial organisational structure.
