The lower paid tier
OpenAI expanded ChatGPT Go on 16 January to markets where ChatGPT is available, listing an $8 monthly US price with local pricing in some countries. The plan offered more messages, file uploads and image creation than the free tier, plus longer memory and context. At launch it centred on GPT-5.2 Instant.
Go remained distinct from Plus and Pro, whose reasoning options, models and limits differed. OpenAI also said it planned to test advertising in US Free and Go experiences, while higher subscriptions would remain ad-free. Those were announced testing plans, rather than a statement that every Go customer worldwide immediately saw ads. The expansion gave more users a lower-price paid entry point, with its exact value depending on the local plan and workload.
