The connections are optional
Google announced Personal Intelligence for Gemini on 14 January, allowing eligible users to connect Gmail, Photos, YouTube and Search to obtain answers informed by their own information. The launch post says those connections are off by default and can be selected or disconnected individually.
Initial access rolled out to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers in the United States with personal accounts. Workspace business, enterprise and education accounts were excluded from this beta. The feature worked across the web, Android and iOS.
Personalisation needs correction
Google says it does not train directly on a user’s Gmail inbox or Photos library, while limited information from prompts and responses can be used to improve functionality. It also acknowledges inaccurate answers and connections between unrelated personal details. The practical change was richer context inside the assistant, with an explicit choice about which accounts and apps supplied it. The US launch did not establish immediate access for Indian subscribers.
