Translation while speech continues
Google released Gemini 3.5 Live Translate on 9 June for streaming speech-to-speech translation. The model detects more than 70 languages and generates translated audio while a person continues speaking, instead of always waiting for a completed turn. Google says it aims to preserve pacing, pitch and intonation while staying a few seconds behind.
The rollout included public preview through the Gemini Live API and AI Studio, plus Google Translate on Android and iOS. Google Meet’s expanded language support began as a private preview for selected business customers, rather than a universal release on that date. Live translation still involves a delay and a quality trade-off between immediate output and waiting for more context; the product’s own description acknowledges that balance.
