Google says Play rejected 1.75 million policy-breaking apps in 2025

Google reported on 19 February that it stopped more than 1.75 million policy-violating apps reaching Play during 2025 and banned over 80,000 developer accounts. It also said it prevented more than 255,000 apps from obtaining excessive access to sensitive information. These are the company’s enforcement figures, not independent estimates of all Android malware.

The report described checks before publication and continued monitoring afterward. Google separately reported Play Protect scanning across apps installed from Play and other sources. Blocking a listing, warning about an installed app and interrupting a risky installation measure different interventions. Their totals should not be added together as if each counted a distinct victim or prevented infection.
