A specific government assurance decision
Apple announced on 26 February that iPhone and iPad running iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 met requirements for handling information up to NATO’s restricted classification. The company said the approval uses built-in platform protections without requiring special software or settings.
What was evaluated
Germany’s Federal Office for Information Security, BSI, conducted technical assessments, testing and security analysis. Apple said the platforms were listed in NATO’s Information Assurance Product Catalogue, following earlier approval for handling classified German government information. This is an assurance milestone for a defined operating-system and classification scope. It should be read at that level: permission to handle NATO restricted material does not extend the certification to every classified workload, every older operating system or every application installed on a device.
