A new model family
Meta announced Muse Spark on 8 April, the first model in a new series built by Meta Superintelligence Labs. The original announcement said it was powering the Meta AI app and website, with Instant and Thinking modes and the ability to divide a request among several agents.
Meta described the model as designed for its own products, including multimodal requests involving images. Access to the underlying model was offered as a private API preview to selected partners.
A staged distribution plan
The April launch began new features in the United States and promised expansion to Meta’s messaging and social apps and AI glasses. A dated May update on the same page documents that subsequent expansion. Meta said it hoped to open-source future versions; that is an intention, not evidence that Muse Spark’s weights were publicly released. The first launch combined consumer distribution with tightly controlled developer access. The private preview provided no general right to download or run the model.
