October patching

Microsoft’s 13 October security updates addressed vulnerabilities across its products, including CVE-2026-96951, which Microsoft reported was being exploited in the wild. The MS-ISAC advisory identifies that exploitation report and recommends applying relevant updates immediately after appropriate testing.

The bulletin covers Windows, Office, SharePoint Server, SQL Server, Exchange Server, Azure, Defender, Edge and developer tools. Its broad product list describes the monthly update scope; it does not mean the named exploited vulnerability affects every listed product.

MS-ISAC says the most severe issues in the release could enable remote code execution with the logged-in user’s privileges. The resulting access could permit program installation or changes to data and accounts. That description concerns potential consequences across the release, rather than a documented outcome of every CVE-2026-96951 attack.

The advisory also recommends limiting user privileges and maintaining documented vulnerability and remediation processes. It supplies no victim count or attacker attribution for the exploited vulnerability.
