Encoding domain knowledge

Mistral introduced Forge on 17 March as a system for enterprises building models around proprietary knowledge. The company describes training on internal documentation, code, structured data and operational records, with support for pretraining, post-training and reinforcement learning. It named partners including ASML, Ericsson and the European Space Agency.

That proposal differs from merely connecting a general model to a search index. Training changes the model’s behaviour or learned representation, while retrieval supplies information at request time. Organisations still need to choose which information should be encoded, how it will be evaluated and who can use the resulting system. Mistral’s announcement establishes a custom-model service and partnerships; it does not publish a universal result showing that every enterprise should train a new model.
