The release

Anthropic made Opus 4.7 generally available on 16 April through Claude, its API and the listed cloud providers. It announced the same rates as Opus 4.6: $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens. The company attributed improvements to advanced coding, longer tasks and image understanding. Those were launch claims, not Capvise test results. The release notes also described safeguards for high-risk cybersecurity requests.

Counting the same prompt differently

The migration section contained a less visible change. Anthropic said its updated tokenizer could turn the same input into roughly 1.0 to 1.35 times as many tokens, depending on the content. It also warned that higher effort settings could produce more output tokens. Unchanged per-token rates therefore did not guarantee an unchanged bill. The company recommended measuring real traffic and adjusting effort or task budgets. A comparison using prompt counts alone would miss that difference; the relevant unit remained the tokens actually processed and generated.
