An experiment with limits
Google began rolling out Project Genie on 29 January to Google AI Ultra subscribers aged 18 or over in the United States. The prototype combines Genie 3 with Nano Banana Pro and Gemini, letting people sketch environments from prompts and images, explore them and remix existing worlds. New scenery is generated as the user moves.
Google explicitly described it as a research prototype. Sessions were limited to 60 seconds, character control could be inconsistent and generated environments did not always follow real-world physics or the original prompt. Some previously demonstrated Genie capabilities were absent. Those limits distinguish a navigable experiment from a finished game engine. The initial announcement also did not establish availability for Indian subscribers.
