Sonnet 5 brings more agent capability to Claude’s lower-price tier

The model became the default on Free and Pro plans.

The pricing change that stayed

Anthropic introduced Claude Sonnet 5 on 30 June, making it the default model for Free and Pro users and available on other Claude plans and the API. The model was positioned for planning, browser and terminal tools, coding and longer work at lower prices than Opus.

Its launch rate was $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens. An official 10 August edit made that introductory price permanent and cancelled a previously planned September increase. That correction matters when reading older charts or launch coverage, some of which show the higher planned rate. Anthropic also corrected a BrowseComp chart methodology on launch day. The revised record is more useful than repeating an obsolete price or treating every early benchmark graphic as final.
