World Labs signs an agreement to join AMD

World Labs announced on 28 September that it had signed a definitive agreement to join AMD. The company said Fei-Fei Li would become an executive vice president and chief scientist, reporting to Lisa Su. Justin Johnson and Ben Mildenhall would continue leading the World Labs team alongside her.

The companies had already worked together on model training and inference optimisation using AMD GPUs. World Labs framed the deal as a way to connect research, models and applications more closely with hardware. It expected closing by the end of 2026, subject to regulatory approval and other customary conditions. That makes the September announcement an agreement, not evidence that ownership had already transferred. Financial terms were not included.
