Coinbase receives an Australian

Coinbase Australia said on 7 April that ASIC had granted it an Australian Financial Services Licence with retail-derivatives authorisation. The company described plans to offer crypto and equity perpetuals, followed by futures and options. The announcement follows its earlier local incorporation and AUSTRAC registration.

The AFSL concerns a particular Australian entity and its authorised activities. It should not be read as regulator approval of every token, every service in Coinbase’s global app or the merits of a trade. Coinbase frames the licence as a basis for expanding its product range. The release gives the regulatory milestone, while individual products still require their own eligibility and availability checks.
