Start below the price

A stablecoin is a digital token designed to track a reference value. Ethereum’s guide describes different approaches, including fiat reserves, crypto collateral and algorithmic mechanisms. The label alone does not tell you who holds the backing, how redemption works or how the design behaves under stress. Ethereum’s overview

Ask what you can verify

For reserve-backed designs, the backing and redemption arrangements matter. For on-chain collateral, the rules and exposure of that collateral matter. Algorithmic arrangements introduce another set of assumptions. A target price does not guarantee that a token will always trade at that price.
The peg is a promise with a mechanism behind it.

The interface hides a lot

Two tokens can look almost identical inside a wallet. That simplicity can be useful, but it can also conceal very different dependencies. A fictional payments interface showing only a balance and a send button leaves the user with little sense of issuer, network or redemption risk.

Infrastructure deserves scrutiny

Our editorial view: digital-money products should explain the system behind the number. Clear documentation is a better starting point than treating a familiar currency symbol as evidence of safety. This article explains a technology concept; it does not recommend a token or an investment.
