Coinbase opens US institutional

Coinbase Financial Markets announced on 29 May that US institutional customers could begin onboarding for access to global crypto-derivatives liquidity. It said Deribit options were live through the regulated futures commission merchant, with additional contracts, collateral types and perpetual futures to follow.

The rollout should not be summarised as immediate access to every product for every US customer. Coinbase described wider client access, including retail, as forthcoming. Its proposition is a single intermediary for markets that institutions previously accessed through separate arrangements. Futures and options remain distinct from spot holdings, and leverage can increase losses. The release establishes the initial institutional access route and sequence of expansion, rather than guaranteeing execution quality or suitability.
