A minority stake
Deutsche Börse Group announced a $200 million strategic investment in Payward, Kraken’s parent, on 14 April. The exchange operator said it acquired existing shares in a secondary transaction, giving it a 1.5% fully diluted stake. The deal deepens a partnership spanning regulated crypto services, tokenised markets, derivatives and institutional liquidity.
Deal and product status
The companies described plans to connect their capabilities across trading, custody, settlement, collateral management and tokenised assets. The investment was still subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals, with closing then expected in the second quarter. A secondary share purchase transfers existing ownership; it does not itself provide the same new cash to Payward as a primary capital raise. The announcement does not specify a separate launch date for the planned services.
