The collateral change
Circle and Polymarket announced a partnership on 5 February to move the prediction platform from bridged USDC on Polygon to native USDC. At announcement, the bridged asset, USDC.e, remained the collateral used for trading. The transition was described as work for the coming months.
Why the distinction matters
Native USDC is issued by Circle’s regulated affiliates, while the existing asset reaches the network through a bridge. The companies want a dollar-denominated settlement asset that connects more directly with Circle’s issuance and redemption infrastructure. The announcement concerns that financial plumbing. It does not itself alter which prediction markets are legal in a user’s jurisdiction, nor does it confirm the migration had already finished on 5 February.
