A nationally chartered issuer

Tether announced the launch of USA₮ on 27 January, identifying Anchorage Digital Bank, N.A. as the issuer of the dollar-backed token. Tether described it as designed for the US federal stablecoin framework established under the GENIUS Act. Cantor Fitzgerald was named reserve custodian and preferred primary dealer. Tether listed Bybit, Crypto.com, Kraken, OKX and MoonPay as platforms for its first distribution phase. Tether USA₮ announcement.

Two tokens, different roles

The announcement separates the US-focused USA₮ product from USD₮, which continues to operate globally. It also states that Tether Operations is publishing the announcement but is not the token’s issuer. That distinction identifies which organisation creates USA₮ and which supports its distribution. Tether’s own notice says the token is not legal tender, is not backed or guaranteed by the US government, and does not carry FDIC or SIPC insurance. A bank issuer and a federal regulatory framework therefore should not be read as a government guarantee of a user’s token balance. Tether USA₮ announcement.
