Finding nearby objects

Apple introduced its second-generation AirTag on 26 January, keeping US prices at $29 for one and $99 for four. The new tracker uses Apple’s second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, with the company claiming Precision Finding at distances up to 50% greater than the previous model. An updated Bluetooth chip and louder speaker extend other ways of locating an item.

Precision Finding also became available on Apple Watch Series 9 or later and Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later. The accessory still relies on the wider Find My network when away from its paired phone. Apple specifies that AirTag is for objects, not tracking people. Its distance and loudness comparisons are vendor measurements, rather than a Capvise field test in an airport or crowded building.
