The denominator matters

Apple said on 16 April that recycled material accounted for 30% of the material in products it shipped during 2025. The report also described 100% recycled cobalt in Apple-designed batteries and 100% recycled rare-earth elements in magnets. Those component-specific figures do not mean an entire device is made exclusively from recycled inputs.

Apple reported greenhouse-gas emissions more than 60% below its 2015 baseline, broadly unchanged from 2024 despite business growth. It also said it had removed plastic from product packaging under its stated accounting. These are company-reported environmental results, not an independent Capvise supply-chain audit. The report’s practical value is in comparing defined measures over time, rather than treating every percentage as interchangeable or as proof that manufacturing has no environmental impact.
