A built-in navigation plan
Apple and Ford announced on 23 July that Apple Maps would be embedded in Ford’s forthcoming Universal Electric Vehicle platform using MapKit for Automotive. The integration was planned for 2027, making this an announced development programme rather than a feature already installed in customers’ cars.
The proposed system includes traffic and incident information, search, turn-by-turn directions and EV routing with battery preconditioning. Ford also plans to use road-level information in developing its next BlueCruise hands-free highway system. Maps data and driving control remain separate parts of that description. Apple said CarPlay would continue on Ford vehicles, so native Maps integration was not presented as a replacement for connecting an iPhone. No completed 2027 rollout is established by the July announcement.
