An upgrade within the platform
Intel announced Core Ultra 7 270K Plus and Core Ultra 5 250K Plus on 11 March, with retail availability planned for 26 March. Suggested starting prices were $299 and $199 respectively. Intel says the processors remain compatible with existing 800-series chipset motherboards.
The refresh adds support for DDR5-7200 memory and a faster die-to-die link, alongside the Intel Binary Optimization Tool for supported workloads. Selected motherboards would also support emerging four-rank CUDIMM modules. These features have distinct requirements: a compatible CPU does not automatically give every board or game every new function. Intel’s performance comparisons use specified systems and settings. For an upgrade, motherboard firmware, memory support and the software optimisation’s game coverage belong in the check alongside the processor name.
