A factory commitment

Apple said on 24 February that it would begin producing Mac mini at a new Houston factory later in the year. The plan would double the footprint of its campus there. The announcement did not say US-made units were already shipping, so it should be read as a manufacturing commitment rather than a completed relocation.

Houston was already assembling advanced AI servers, including logic boards produced onsite, for Apple’s US data centres. Apple also described a 20,000-square-foot Advanced Manufacturing Center under construction, with training planned for students, supplier employees and businesses. Those are separate strands of the expansion: finished computers, server production and workforce training. The release did not establish that all worldwide Mac mini production would move to Texas.
