Capacity is the headline
Apple announced the M5 Max and M5 Ultra Mac Studio on 25 August, raising the top unified-memory configuration to 512GB. M5 Ultra reaches a 36-core CPU and 80-core GPU; the M5 Max configuration reaches 128GB of memory. Orders opened with the announcement, ahead of planned 22 September availability.
Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 join the desktop, alongside Thunderbolt 5. Apple also described clustering multiple systems over Thunderbolt for distributed inference, with performance gains dependent on its tested workload. For local AI users, memory capacity determines which models and working contexts fit before speed becomes relevant. The maximum specification belongs to a particular high-end configuration; it is not the memory allocation included with every Mac Studio.
