Storage before speed
Apple announced the M5 MacBook Air on 3 March with a more consequential base configuration: 512GB of storage, twice the previous starting capacity. Buyers could configure up to 4TB. The 13-inch model started at $1,099 in the US; the 15-inch version at $1,299. Preorders were set for 4 March and deliveries for 11 March.
The N1 wireless chip adds Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. Two Thunderbolt 4 ports support up to two external displays, while the fanless enclosure remains. Apple also claims faster AI and graphics workloads, but its benchmark results should be read as vendor tests rather than a general guarantee that every application runs several times faster.
