Two dies, one system
Apple announced 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M5 Pro and M5 Max on 3 March. The chips use Fusion Architecture to join two dies within one system. The CPU design reaches 18 cores, while GPU cores include Neural Accelerators. These are architecture changes, rather than evidence that every existing application automatically uses the new acceleration.
The M5 Pro laptop starts with a 1TB SSD; M5 Max starts with 2TB. Maximum unified memory reaches 64GB and 128GB respectively, with different bandwidth ceilings. Both models add the N1 wireless chip for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. Apple scheduled preorders for 4 March and availability for 11 March. Its AI speed comparisons remain workload-specific vendor measurements, not independent application testing.
