A business hardware refresh

Microsoft announced new Surface Pro for Business and Surface Laptop for Business devices on 19 May, with Intel Core Ultra Series 3 configurations available in selected markets that day. The Devices Blog release also outlined a later expansion using Snapdragon X2 processors.

The company emphasised local AI acceleration, commercial management and repairability. It said nearly every major component in the business portfolio was replaceable, with parts and guides intended to help IT teams keep machines in service.

Configuration determines the comparison

Microsoft’s performance claims refer to specified chips and benchmark comparisons, rather than every Surface model. The announcement also cautions that some AI experiences need internet access, compatible hardware or a Microsoft 365 subscription. For an organisation buying PCs, the useful distinction is between available Intel configurations and planned Snapdragon models. Choosing a processor does not by itself settle application compatibility, regional availability or the licences required for the software a team expects to use.
