A new round for AI infrastructure
Tenstorrent announced on 19 October that it had closed a $1.5 billion Series E financing at a $6.2 billion post-money valuation. Trace Capital and Innovation X led the round, with participation from new and existing investors, according to the company.
The funding gives the AI computing company more capital as it expands beyond chip design into systems. Tenstorrent builds processors and servers for AI workloads and licenses designs to customers that want to build their own hardware.
From chips to servers
The company is led by chip architect Jim Keller. As demand for AI infrastructure grows, it is competing in a market where performance, software compatibility, manufacturing capacity and delivery all matter alongside the processor design.
The round’s valuation reflects the price investors placed on the company after the financing; it is not a measure of sales or proof of future market share. Axios reported that the new funding will support manufacturing as Tenstorrent scales its server business.
